Education
Adams State University, Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, 2013 — I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University, a program known for its strong emphasis on social justice, culturally responsive care, and ethical clinical practice. My graduate training included extensive coursework in counseling theory, diagnosis, trauma-informed care, and multicultural counseling. During my time at Adams State, I focused my research and clinical training on supporting individuals navigating trauma, identity development, and life transitions. My academic work and practical experiences have deeply informed my approach, allowing me to provide compassionate, evidence-based care tailored to each client’s unique needs. In addition to coursework, I actively participated in professional development opportunities and peer collaboration groups that emphasized advocacy, cultural humility, and service to underrepresented communities.
Work HistoryOver the years, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of settings that have shaped how I support people navigating mental health challenges, trauma, and life transitions. My private practice, Insight Awaken PLLC, is the heart of the work I do today. Through this space, I provide individual and group therapy with a focus on trauma, anxiety, depression, and helping people rediscover their identity—especially during major life changes. I also supervise new therapists, support organizations with developing mental health programs, and lead trainings on trauma-informed care and wellness strategies. Before launching my own practice, I worked extensively with both children and adults in community-based settings. At Children’s Hope Alliance, I led a team that served children with serious emotional and behavioral needs. We worked closely with families, schools, and other providers to ensure each child received care tailored to their specific situation. I learned a lot about building trust with families and creating practical, supportive plans that make a real difference in daily life. My work with Vaya Health and Cardinal Innovations involved helping individuals with complex mental health and substance use needs—especially those who were at high risk or transitioning between care settings. I helped clients access the support they needed by creating personalized care plans, coordinating with medical teams, and staying connected through life’s ups and downs. This is where my passion for integrated care—treating the whole person, not just symptoms—really deepened. I also had the privilege of working with college students during my time at TimelyMD, offering teletherapy support during a critical time in their development. Supporting young adults as they navigate independence, relationships, and identity helped me further develop my strengths in crisis intervention and compassionate listening. Currently, I also conduct clinical assessments for individuals seeking treatment for eating disorders with Transcend ED. This work requires thoughtful evaluation, collaboration with treatment teams, and sensitivity to each person’s unique story and needs. Earlier in my career, I gained experience in long-term care settings, conducting specialized evaluations to help determine appropriate care for individuals with both medical and behavioral health needs. That work reinforced the importance of person-centered care—meeting people where they are and advocating for services that truly fit. Across all these roles, I’ve developed a deep commitment to culturally responsive care, holistic wellness, and empowering people through every step of their healing journey.
