What is your style/approach to therapy?
I will provide a safe environment to facilitate positive growth in your life. My approach is warm, non-judgmental and flexible as we work together to establish individualized goals and creative solutions specific to your needs.Therapy should be a positive experience for you where you feel heard and supported and gain new insights into your feelings and experiences. Our sessions will be focused on you becoming restored and replenished with more energy for the things you value. Whether you are experiencing a short term challenge or ongoing struggle, it takes bravery to step forward and want to make changes in your life.
What does a first session with you look like?
Our first session is a time to gather information on what brings you to therapy. I will ask background questions that will give me an idea of your lifestyle and your typical social interactions and will also explore in what areas you need support. At times we need to examine the past to chart the path forward, with the goal of solutions based support so you leave the session feeling hopeful for the changes you want in your life.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I use a solution based cognitive therapy approach. That means I will be offering you suggestions and asking you questions about different ideas to try. I do not use a psychoanalytical approach, and while it can be important to examine your past, sessions will focus on what we can change moving forward. I use a sense of humor and will encourage you to have less harsh expectations for yourself, but will also encourage you to try new things to get a new perspective and get past the issues that are troubling you. There is some work involved and it is worth it!
