What excites you most about the evolving mental health landscape?

The ability to utilize technology has started breaking down barriers such as mobility, seeking caregivers or a number of factors that may have prevented access to care. It has opened a portal for both professionals and individuals to learn, socialize, research, cope and/or adapt to the changes or obstacles we face. I look forward to continuing to learn of more effective ways to provide tailored mental health services to clients and perspective clients.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

I am an eclectic practitioner, as each walks their own path it is important to tailor to the needs of the client. I assess the responsiveness of the client to my approach or method initially. I generally utilize person-centered style therapy to empower and support client. Depending on client comfort I encourage feedback identifying what the client viewed as most helpful or not from previous session in an effort to both check in and empower clients to help me be a better more effective counselor for them.

In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?

I have encountered and endured much throughout my life. The barriers/traumas/hard learned lessons were catalyst for me to pursue a career in mental health. I believe my experiences have aided me to empathize and relate to others who have also endured barriers/traumas/ loss which impacted their lives. I grew up in a house with addicts at various stages of sobriety ranging in age, abilities, beliefs, mental health issues and cultures; permitting unique perspectives to the experiences of others.
