How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
It is important for me to get to know the person I am working with and to find out what has initially brought them into therapy. Most people have some idea about what they are feeling uncomfortable with in their life and what to feel differently. It is my job t help facilitate a discussion that will lead us to their goal and to make if very clear for both them and I to start the work.
What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?
Like most relationships they start with mutual respect so that trust can emerge between them.
If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
That the therapist is not judging them or making assumptions. They are in a safe place with a person who want to help them.

Work HistoryI have been a clinical social worker for 20 plus years. I have worked in K- 12 schools with children and adolescents on mental health issues and special education. I have worked in hospitals with nursing home patients and rehabilitation to assist people to continue to live independently. I have worked with adults and children in psychiatric hospitalizations as well as, substance abuse issues.
