What does a first session with you look like?
During the first session we will discuss what brought you to seek counseling at this time. We will review any technical issues you may have with on-line counseling and Privacy Rules, and discuss your goals and expectations for therapy. I will gather information to help me better understand your history and your family relationships. It is a time to decide if you are comfortable with me as your therapist as it has been shown that the biggest determinant of successful counseling is the relationship between the client and the therapist.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach to counseling is collaborative, open, and honest. Seeking therapy is a courageous step and feeling that you are in a safe and non-judgmental environment is paramount. I view my role as one of a supportive person who will help you learn coping skills to deal with the problems in your life. I always try to go where the client is, and do not have my own agenda for some else’s issues. I am here to help you discover and implement what is best for you on your journey.
In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?
My philosophy of life and my treatment philosophy are basically the same. I believe that we are all on a journey and are navigating life as best we can. Over the years I have come to realize that many of life’s struggles are necessary to develop the strength we need for tomorrow. What matters is not how many times we fall, but that we always get up again. We need to learn how to change or adapt to situations that we cannot control.

I began my career working for Broward County in their Substance Abuse and Co-Occurring Disorders facilities.
