What excites you most about the evolving mental health landscape?

One of the biggest challenges facing prospective therapy clients is the initial appointment. All the things people fear and detest about medical appointments: finding an office, sitting, the long wait, counting down the time for your name to be called is alleviated by TeleTherapy. TeleTherapy is usually in the comfort of your own home or a location where you feel at ease. You can have your favorite blanket, mug of tea and anything else that makes you feel at calm and secure. You don't have to race through traffic, parking, find a sitter, spend time travelling or worry about inclement weather. Scheduling is flexible to suit what works best for you. Even if you're feeling a little under the weather, you could still keep your TeleTherapy appointment instead of having to cancel an in-person session.

What does a first session with you look like?

I want you to feel as comfortable as possible. During the first session we will get to know each other. I answer any questions, address any concerns you may have about therapy and find the best personalized approach to take for future sessions. I gather information about problems, history, personal interest and work in collaboration with my clients to establish individualized treatment goals. Before the first session ends, we decide if we are a good match for each other to begin making positive life changes together.

What do you think is the biggest barrier today for people seeking care?

The stigma of mental illness is one of the foremost barriers deterring people who need it from seeking it. Often people do not want to be labeled as going to a "shrink" or labeled as "crazy", but therapy is about personal growth, overall health and well-being. Also, people's own belief about mental illness can prevent them from acknowledging their issues or sticking with treatment. As your therapist we will create achievable milestone goals and measurable outcomes.
