What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
It would be important for someone to know that I am a woman of faith. I enjoy working with anyone regardless of their belief system, and know that we all can learn from each other. It would also be important for someone to know that I identify as African American/Black and provide a safe space to discuss culturally specific care for persons of color.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I provide a safe and confidential space to work through past and current experiences, traumas, and identify goals. I teach and model healthy coping skills to manage life stressors. My friends would describe me as attentive, a good listener, inciteful, direct, encouraging, and caring. My style is personable. I encourage that clients challenge barriers to personal success, and I am solution-focused.
What does a first session with you look like?
Your first session with me is sure to be welcoming, inviting, and a more formal. You can expect to be asked some personal background questions about your medical/mental health and family health history, as well as the primary reason you're seeking therapy services. While we most likely won't dive into anything too deep during this session, it's to allow you more time to talk about the details of the issue in subsequent sessions. Confidentiality clause, treatment planning, and scheduling will be reviewed as well.
