Under Clinical Supervision

Mx. Aaron Michael Mason, Associate Marriage and Family Therapist, 119898 is practicing under the supervision of Theodore Burnes (California, Licensed Psychologist, PSY25544) at 1923 1/2 Westwood Blvd, Ste 2, Los Angeles, CA 90025.

Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.

What would be important for someone to know about working with you?

For those clients that I develop a really strong bond with, I feel like I do my best work. I am not a great fit for every client though. And I am getting more and more comfortable with this fact. Some clients prefer a therapist who is very directive. I am more methodical and if/when I give advice, I have looked at lots of alternatives and asked you a lot of questions first. I get along well with people who like art and pets. I believe that the therapeutic relationship can be very healing for both of us. And I love to learn new things. It is very difficult to shock me. My strengths are active listening, empathy, pattern recognition, and humor if/when appropriate. I believe we all have inner children who deserve to relax and laugh and play now and then. And sometimes they need to cry, express anger, tell someone they're scared too. It's all part of the process.

Work History

My official training as a psychotherapist began in 2019. However, some of my earliest jobs in high school and college involved peer counseling. More recently, I worked with seniors with memory loss and their spouses at a day care program in West LA called OPICA. Looking back, this pre-pandemic training site was very special. Holding our client's hands, setting up art supplies and trivia games for them, dancing with them, helping them walk around Stoner Park, singing alongside them--these were all parts of the job. And alas, COVID-19 changed all that. So I feel grateful for that time before the lockdowns. OPICA gave me experience facilitating groups and in working one-on-one. This was helpful for my work at a substance use recovery center, where I ran 2 weekly drama therapy groups. This was a fun way to integrate my former interests in theater and improv while helping clients see their issues in new ways.
