What would be important for someone to know about working with you?

When working with me, it's important to understand that I emphasize a holistic approach to mental health. This includes a well-rounded routine of activities such as meditation, physical exercise, a balanced diet, and taking medication as prescribed (with advocacy if there are concerns about its effectiveness). I also stress the importance of maintaining consistent connections with friends, family, and the local community, as well as being mindful of screen time and electronic device usage. I regularly check in with my clients about these areas to assess how stable their foundation is, as these factors can significantly impact progress toward mental health goals. Additionally, I often introduce my clients to basic meditation practices, breath work, and gentle yoga stretches. I believe there is a strong connection between the body and the mind: as the body becomes more flexible, so does the mind, and as the mind becomes more still, the sensations and signals from the body and heart become clearer.

In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?

My personal experiences with major depression have significantly influenced my work with clients. After graduating from high school, I struggled with severe depression, which led me to drop out of college and nearly quit my job due to a lack of joy in my life. Fortunately, I found a therapist who introduced me to various meditation techniques and encouraged me to practice them outside of our sessions. Initially, I struggled to maintain this practice, but by incorporating meditation into each session, I gradually developed a more tranquil and meaningful life. This experience taught me the importance of looking within for answers and making meaningful changes from the inside out. The dark period of my depression showed me that sometimes all it takes is a small spark to illuminate what truly matters. This understanding has deepened my empathy and commitment to helping clients find their own paths to meaningful change and inner peace.

In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?

I believe that the simplest solutions are often the most elegant and effective. In a world bombarded by advertisements promoting bigger and better, I find that consistent and purposeful action leads to meaningful change. Everyday activities can become fulfilling moments when we slow down and listen to what our body and heart have to share. My treatment philosophy also revolves around the idea that thoughts and emotions are not isolated within our minds but exist within a shared field of awareness. True connection and understanding arise when the mind is still, allowing us to feel each other's feelings and understand each other's thoughts. This state of awareness fosters compassion and deep empathy, which are essential in both my personal life and my therapeutic practice.

Work History

Throughout my career, I've worked in diverse environments, helping a wide range of clients from children to adults with various mental health needs. My journey began with a deep interest in psychology, leading to a Master’s degree in Applied Psychological Sciences from Pacific University. I started as a Personal Care Aid, gaining a profound appreciation for personal care, and then served as a Psychiatric Technician at Albertina Kerr, where I learned the importance of empathy and a supportive environment. I further developed my crisis management skills as a Mental Health Specialist I at Youth and Family Crisis Services. Later, as a Mental Health Specialist II at Children's Behavioral Health, I worked closely with families to address behavioral and emotional issues, solidifying my understanding of family dynamics. Currently, working part time as a Mental Health Counselor at Stronger Oregon, I support clients in overcoming challenges related to anxiety, depression, trauma, and life transitions, always grounded in empathy and a client-centered approach.
