Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I realized very early on that people felt safe and comfortable opening up to me about things that most would not want to share. That combined with my passion for helping people made this profession seem like my natural path. It also helps that I'm a talker, a great listener, and an extremely curious individual. Though naturally introverted, my work as a therapist is where I feel most like myself. I want my clients to experience that same sense of openness and authenticity.
How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
I always start by finding out what exactly brought the client to therapy. I listen to everything that is said, as well as the things that are not said. I will ask what their personal goals or hopes are for their therapeutic process. After listening to both answers and any other background information that they offer, I usually share any additional things that I feel may be ideal to focus on. The client is the expert on their own life and needs, so if they disagree with my suggestions, I respect that and we focus on what they want. Throughout their entire journey with me, we will work as a team to meet the agreed-upon goals.
If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
THIS IS A JUDGMENT FREE ZONE!!! Nobody breathing is in a position to judge. We all have a story with hard times, dark thoughts, and bad days. Those moments do not define us. Even therapists have a therapist. We are all only human, trying to be better today than we were yesterday, so be yourself and speak your mind. I am here to listen and I truly do care how you feel.
