Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I knew I wanted to be a therapist since I was 13 years old. I had experienced a lot of trauma growing up, and I knew I either was going to go down the wrong path or help people. I had my run in with many therapists in my day and finally found one that had changed my life. I knew that is what I wanted to do. I want to be the guiding light to someone else who has felt the way I had before. As cliche as it sounds, I became the person I needed!
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
There has been an ongoing joke with my friends that my nickname is "Sunshine". I am known to be upbeat, friendly, and an extrovert. I take a huge empathetic, engaged approach. I feel as though my light can help being someone up due to my personality when I am with them.
What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?
I have learned how similar we all truly are. We all want to be loved, to be cared for, and to feel safe. That manifests in different ways such as anger or fear, but it comes down to we are all just humans trying to survive. Also, our life experiences impact so much more of ourselves than we understand.
