Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I grew up in a family in which I experienced unmet physical and emotional needs. When I left home, I didn't know much, but knew that education was my path to a different life than what I had experienced up until that point. I was studying for my undergraduate degree in sociology and criminal justice and had a job working as a behavior assistant in a partial hospitalization program with adolescents struggling with mental health and addiction issues and it was this job where I had the realization that this is what I wanted to do with my life--support people through the struggles that life inevitably throws at them. From there, I did go on to graduate school and obtain a master's degree in counseling psychology, and since graduating in 2009, I have worked in schools, outpatient services, military mental health, crisis support/intervention, and telehealth/contract work. I've been very fortunate to have diverse experiences working with people across the lifespan that have prepared me to support people experiencing a variety of concerns. Even after being in the profession for over 15 years, I am inspired daily by the strength, resilience and determination of the clients I work with and find it an absolute honor to support people through the trials and tribulations of life.
In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?
I believe that on any given moment of any given day, people are doing the best that they can at that time, with the knowledge, resources, support and experience they have had up until that time. I believe that humans are inherently good. In the very wise words of Maya Angelou, "Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better." This aligns with my foundational life philosophy that life is a journey and the only person we need to worry about comparing ourselves to is who we were yesterday. The evolving journey of life has shown me that we will need to continue to learn, be open to learning and at times, be humbled by that learning, throughout our lives. Life truly is a journey and not a destination. All of this I believe to be true AND, what I also believe to be true, is that we are often our own worst critic. To that end, I firmly believe that we must learn how to afford ourselves grace and compassion for being human. Our well being, individually and collectively, depends on it.
This philosophy of life I hold overlaps with how I approach my work with clients in that I believe in the power of the human spirit, strength and resilience. I believe that we are the experts on our own lives and that we have the infinite strength and wisdom to navigate the turbulent times of life, but that sometimes, we get in our own way and the internal and external noise takes us off course; when this happens, we may find ourselves needing to course correct and realign our values, priorities and sense of self, and sometimes, we may need a fellow human to help us on that path.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
My approach is strengths based, warm, honest, collaborative, empowering and grounded in compassion with a mix of challenging but gentle encouragement when needed. In our sessions, you’ll find a supportive space where you can slow down, reconnect with yourself, and learn practical tools to manage stress, build boundaries, feel more grounded and connected as you create meaningful, lasting change and take back control of your life. I believe growth happens at your own pace, and therapy is about helping you feel more empowered, balanced, and aligned with the life you want to live.

Work HistoryHi, I’m Amber. I help individuals who feel stuck, anxious, or weighed down by the past find clarity, confidence, and a deeper sense of peace, connection and purpose. Many of the clients I work with grew up with emotionally unavailable or unpredictable parents and now struggle with self-doubt, people-pleasing, or challenges in relationships. I want you to know that the ways you learned to cope aren’t failures—they were survival strategies that worked for you when you needed them. Now, you have the power and autonomy to choose something different. Together, we will work to understand how those early experiences shaped you—and how you can break free from old patterns that no longer serve you to find the peace and clarity you've been searching for.
Throughout my 16 year career and prior to opening my practice, I have been fortunate to have diverse experiences that have equipped me to help my clients navigate a variety of concerns. In addition to working with adults, I have worked extensively with adolescents and young adults from the age of 13+. I have also worked extensively with service members and their families and have experience in effectively providing treatment on a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, work-life balance, attachment, family of origin/adverse childhood experiences, parenting, relationship/family conflict, domestic violence, sexual assault, parenting, grief/loss and life transitions, as well as deployments, separations and general military life stressors.
Therapy isn't a one size fits all approach, so depending on your presenting concern and current coping around your experiences, therapeutic interventions utilized may vary throughout our work together. This is generally referred to as an integrative or eclectic approach to therapy. My driving philosophy in my work with clients is rooted in the belief that people are the experts on their own lives and experiences, and as such, my foundational framework in my work with clients is person centered and relational. I also draw from other modalities such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), all through a culturally sensitive and trauma informed lens.
Reaching out for help isn’t always easy—and yet, here you are. Choosing to begin therapy is a sign of courage. It is an act of self care and growth.
It means you’re ready to invest in yourself and grow toward greater peace and clarity and create meaningful, lasting change. It can sometimes feel overwhelming with knowing where to start, but I want you to know that you don’t have to have everything figured out to start—just a willingness to take the next step toward the life you deserve. I'm committed to creating a safe and compassionate space, where we'll walk the healing journey together. I'll see you in therapy!
