What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I have always been passionate about child and adolescent mental health, which is why I chose to work in schools. Mental health services and supports are often difficult to access, and supporting children and their families is essential to help children succeed and have happy and fulfilled lives.
How has your particular field of specialization evolved in recent years and how has that impacted your work?
The field of school psychology changed from when I was originally trained, and the mental health field is receiving much more support now. Children and adolescents largely want to just feel better and are highly motivated to do so with the right support from a therapist and their family. I focus on collaborating with families to increase competence and also focus on collaborating with school systems to make sure everyone is on the same page with ways to most appropriately support the child.
