What is your style/approach to therapy?
I'm Andrea — a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist based in San Diego, CA, and I work with women who are exhausted by the gap between how capable they appear and how depleted they actually feel.
If you've landed on my profile, something brought you here. Maybe it's the anxiety that won't quiet down no matter how much you accomplish. Maybe it's the burnout that's crept in so gradually you're not even sure when you stopped feeling like yourself. Maybe you're navigating the identity shift that comes with motherhood and wondering where you went in the process. Whatever it is — I'm glad you're looking.
The women I work with are usually the ones holding everything together for everyone else. They're high-functioning, self-aware, and have often been managing their inner world quietly for a long time. What brings them to therapy isn't falling apart — it's finally deciding they want to actually feel okay, not just keep up.
My approach draws from ACT, CBT, somatic therapy, and nervous system regulation — practical and evidence-based, but never rigid. Sessions are built around you: your story, your patterns, and what actually needs to shift. I bring genuine curiosity and zero judgment to every conversation.
With over 15 years of experience across community mental health and school-based settings, and a certification in maternal mental health, I've spent my career working with women at every stage of life. I'm also a mom myself, which means the pressures my clients navigate aren't abstract to me.
I offer virtual therapy for adults across California and in-person walk-and-talk sessions for San Diego clients. If you're ready to stop just getting through it, I'd love to connect.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I'm direct, but I lead with warmth. I'll be honest with you about what I'm noticing, and I'll also never make you feel judged for it. Therapy with me isn't going to feel like sitting across from someone with a clipboard waiting for you to have a breakthrough. It's going to feel like a real conversation — sometimes uncomfortable, always intentional, and consistently in your corner.
I don't believe in one-size-fits-all treatment. My approach combines mind-body healing, nervous system regulation, and actionable strategies— not quick fixes, but lasting change that honors your unique needs. Some sessions we'll be working with your thoughts, some with your body, some just untangling what's actually going on underneath the surface. I follow your lead on pace and I'll always tell you where I'm going and why.
Here's what I want you to know most: I'm not here to fix you, because you're not broken. I'm not going to pathologize you. I'm not going to hand you a coping skills list and send you on your way. And I'm not going to pretend this work is always easy — but I will make sure you never feel like you're doing it alone.
A lot of my clients are used to being the capable one. The one who figures things out, holds it together, shows up for everyone else. If that's you, this is the space where you get to put that down for a little while. For a lot of my clients, that is everything.
If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
You don't have to be in crisis to deserve support.
I think a lot of people talk themselves out of therapy because they feel like their problems aren't bad enough, or they should be able to handle it on their own, or someone else has it worse. So they wait. They manage. They keep going until managing stops working. Then they feel like they waited too long.
Here's what I wish more people knew: therapy isn't just for rock bottom. It's for the woman who's functioning just fine on the outside and exhausted on the inside. It's for the anxiety that's been there so long you've started to think it's just your personality. It's for the feeling that you're doing everything right and still not okay.
You're allowed to want more than just getting through it.
The other thing I hear a lot is that people are scared they'll come in and have to talk about things they're not ready for. That's not how this works — at least not with me. You set the pace. We go where you're ready to go. The point is never to overwhelm you, it's to actually help you.
If you've been on the fence, consider this your sign to just reach out. A consultation call is a conversation, not a commitment. The worst that happens is you find out it's not the right fit. The best that happens is everything starts to shift.

Work HistoryBefore opening Tulipa Therapy, I spent over 15 years working in community mental health, juvenile justice, and school-based settings. That experience shaped everything about how I work today. I've sat with people navigating some of the hardest circumstances imaginable. Whatever you bring into our sessions, I can hold it.
Those years also gave me a deep understanding of how systems, stress, and survival patterns get built over time. How survival mode becomes a personality. How anxiety, perfectionism, and the feeling of never being enough don't come from nowhere — they come from years of adapting to pressure, expectations, and environments that asked a lot and gave little back.
I opened Tulipa Therapy because I wanted to build something intentional — a space specifically designed for women who are ready to stop managing their inner world alone and start actually feeling better. I'm also a certified maternal mental health provider, which deepened my understanding of identity, emotional labor, and what it really means to lose yourself a little in the process of caring for everyone else. And as a mom myself, I bring lived experience alongside my clinical training.
Everything I do now — the way I work, the approach I take, the things I pay attention to in sessions — was built from 15 years of showing up for people in some of their hardest moments.
