What is your style/approach to therapy?

My therapy approach is client-centered and solution-focused, tailored to each individual's unique needs. I use cognitive behavioral techniques to help clients identify and challenge negative thought patterns. Building strong therapeutic alliances is essential, as I believe a supportive and empathetic relationship is key to effective therapy. I emphasize evidence-based interventions and adapt treatment plans based on ongoing assessments and progress, fostering personal growth and self-awareness in a safe and nurturing environment.

What does a first session with you look like?

In a first session with me, we start by discussing your reasons for seeking therapy and any specific concerns or goals you have. I take time to get to know you and gather relevant background information. We also review confidentiality and what to expect from therapy. I encourage you to share your story at your own pace, and I ensure the environment is welcoming and non-judgmental. Together, we begin to identify key areas to focus on, and I introduce some initial strategies and interventions that may be helpful. The goal is to establish a strong foundation for our therapeutic relationship and set the stage for your personal growth and healing.

What does success look like in therapy? How will a client know that they are making progress?

Success in therapy involves achieving personal goals, improving mood, reducing symptoms, and enhancing coping skills. Clients can gauge their progress through self-assessments and regular discussions during sessions. I will also provide occasional assessments to determine progress and ensure therapy is meeting their needs. Signs of progress include increased self-awareness, healthier relationships, and a greater sense of well-being. This continuous feedback loop reinforces their sense of achievement and motivation.

Work History

I've dedicated my career to counseling and education, working extensively as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC) in Texas. Currently, I run my own practice, Austin Counseling Services, where I conduct individual therapy sessions using client-centered and solution-focused approaches, integrating cognitive behavioral techniques to address a variety of mental health concerns. I handle everything from assessments to treatment plans and business operations. Before this, I served as a school counselor at Serene Hills Elementary and Del Valle Middle School. At these schools, I developed and implemented comprehensive counseling programs, facilitated group sessions, provided crisis interventions, and supported students in their academic and personal growth. Additionally, I supervised and mentored graduate counselor interns, providing them with training and ongoing support. My career has been dedicated to fostering strong therapeutic alliances, promoting mental wellness, and creating supportive environments for both students and clients.
