In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
I am a very even keeled person. I have been told by others that I have a calming presence and that my voice is soothing at times. I don't get worked up over a lot, and not many things surprise me. I think these aspects of my personality help me to create a comfortable, safe, judgement-free environment for clients.
What does a first session with you look like?
In our first session I talk a lot. Mainly because I want you to understand how therapy works and the important aspects of the informed consent that you signed. I leave a lot of time for this so that you can ask any and all questions that you need. After all, you're still deciding if you want me as your therapist! Then we get into it - "it" being whatever will serve you the most. If you're not sure what that is, we'll start to go through your intake questionnaire and get to know each other!

Work HistoryI began my professional career as a public school teacher. I was a music teacher/choir director to be exact. I enjoyed working with adolescents, but the current state of education left me more stressed and anxious than I had been in my entire life. After 5 years of teaching, I decided to go back to school to pursue my dual masters in counseling and music therapy. Work is not everything, but when I found the right fit, so other parts of my life improved.
Going through that huge career and life change is partly why I'm passionate about helping young adults who are figuring out their life, and other women like me who decide it's time to make a change.
