What is your style/approach to therapy?
I like to use a warm and affirming approach to encourage and challenge you to live the kind of life that brings you contentment and satisfaction. To do that, I take an approach that is very attuned to you so that I can convey to you that your experiences are seen and heard by me. Once your experiences are seen and heard by me, I'd like to serve as a guide that will help you to gain insights into unhelpful patterns of thoughts, beliefs, feelings, and behaviors that you may have developed to protect yourself during times of traumas and hardships. Together, we can help you to learn new ways to cultivate a life that you deserve.
What does a first session with you look like?
In my first session with you, I strive to be a curious yet empathetic explorer as I try to gain a better understanding of why you are seeking support and how I can provide that support for you. We will be going at your pace, and your comfort and safety will be my priority in the first session. My goal in the first session is for you to feel seen, heard, and understood by me so that we can begin to develop our therapeutic relationship together.

Work HistoryHello there! My name is Baochau (I go by Bao). I am a bilingual Vietnamese American therapist at Rising Lanterns Therapy, and I am based in Southern California. I primarily work with kids, teens, and adults, and I specialize in treating clients who struggle with depression, anxiety, generational & family trauma, Asian American & BIPOC issues, and identity & cultural stress.
I like to use various therapeutic approaches to tailor to each client’s individual needs, but some of the approaches I like to use in my practice stem from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, and Client-Centered Therapy. More importantly, my goal is to help you feel seen and heard in your experiences as we work together towards your healing.
As a therapist who is also a woman of color, I strive to provide culturally sensitive and affirming care for my BIPOC clients. I look forward to meeting with you and working together to find the type of care that is most suited to your needs. I hope we can use the nurturing and supportive space together to embark on your journey towards healing and growth.
