Get To Know Me
How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?
I believe developing therapy goals should be a collaboration between the client and the therapist. My job is to help the client identify the problems. Then we set SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Time-Based goals. Setting goals is the roadmap to help the client know how to navigate from point A to point B.
If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
You don't have to shoulder it all by yourself. Counseling is a safe place you can drop your worries, concerns, and problems. It's a place to develop better coping mechanisms for living life.
What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?
The key is that it be an emotional bond of trust, caring, and respect.
