Work HistoryIn the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer – Albert Camus I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) and Certified Trauma Professional (CTP). I view counseling as a process in which he assists his clients to focus on their strengths to initiate and maintain meaningful changes in their lives. I specialize in working with adults, men’s issues, teachers, first responders, and military veterans. I bring a unique skill set to his work as a counselor including military service, over a decade of work in the defense industry, experience working in the community as a substitute teacher, as well as being a teacher/mentor for at-risk children and adolescents. In addition to his work as a therapist, I am a student and Assistant Instructor (2nd Degree Black Belt) in Aikido. I am dedicated to supporting clients in their journey toward healing and recovery and strive to create a safe, non-judgmental, and when appropriate, light-hearted therapeutic environment. I enjoy collaborating with my clients to identify their unique strengths and resources, empowering them to reclaim control over their lives and build resilience in the face of adversity. I like to draw from multiple theoretical approaches including the use of humanistic, Gestalt, existential, and cognitive-behavioral techniques to best meet my client’s needs. I also often complement these techniques through the use time time-tested philosophical approaches from both Eastern and Western disciplines such as Buddhism and stoicism. I primarily utilize humanistic person-centered therapy, providing a safe and empathetic space for my clients where emphasis is placed on the therapeutic relationship, actively listening, and offering unconditional positive regard, allowing clients to feel heard, validated, and supported throughout their healing process. Furthermore, I incorporate gestalt therapy, which focuses on the present moment and the integration of thoughts, feelings, and actions. By guiding clients to explore their experiences in a mindful and embodied way, he helps them gain a deeper understanding of their emotions and sensations. Through the integration of humor, he fosters a light-hearted atmosphere that promotes relaxation, stress reduction, and a sense of safety during the therapeutic process. I am also trained in working with Complex PTSD, which often arises from repeated or prolonged trauma. I recognize the unique challenges faced by individuals with Complex PTSD and tailor my therapy to address their specific needs. By providing a compassionate and validating space, I help clients navigate the complexities of their trauma history and move toward healing and recovery. I graduated with a Masters’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of the Cumberlands. I also hold a Bachelor’s Degree in Conflict, Politics, and National Policy from Mary Washington University. I continue to engage in professional development, staying abreast of the latest trauma research and therapeutic techniques, to ensure the highest quality of care for my clients.
