What would be important for someone to know about working with you?

I would like future clients to know that not every session is going to have an AHA! moment- and that's okay! I'm a down-to-earth, compassionate, and easy-going counselor who will be there to support you through your journey and respect your pace.

How do you determine therapy goals with clients? What does that process look like?

We will have conversations to discuss your desire to seek therapy and what you hope to accomplish while you're in service. Through these discussions, we will collaborate to decide which issues are most prominent and what steps you will take to reach your desired outcome.

What are your biggest strengths as a therapist?

I believe my biggest strength as a therapist is that I'm approachable and relatable. I've had a wide variety of life experiences, this is my second career, and I do value self-disclosure when it's appropriate. I believe that allowing my clients to see my humanness adds value to the counselor-client relationship.

Work History

I started my career working in the community mental health setting as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) for adults in Newport News, Hampton, and Virginia Beach, VA. While working as a QMHP I supported adults with day-to-day needs, crisis stabilization, and community engagement. I transitioned to working as an intern at a group practice providing psychotherapy to children ages 6+ and adults with various diagnoses. I engaged my clients in talk therapy, worksheets, and creative therapy. After working at the group practice for one year, I transitioned to working at the current group practice based in Norfolk, VA. At Mermaid Counseling I have been supported in developing my specialties and expanding my passion for my clients.
