What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

For as long as I can remember, I always enjoyed engaging in the art-making process as it always felt like an experience of true emotional release and peace. In high school, I began to learn about psychology, becoming instantly fascinated by the human brain and our behaviors which ultimately lead me to receive my undergraduate degree in the field. As soon as I realized Art Therapy was a profession, I knew it was the path for me and eventually completing my master's degree in the field. When I began to work as an Art Therapist, I quickly realized how many clients needed support in further understanding and connecting with their bodies and I learned more about Somatic Healing. Combining the two has become a pillar for my practice and in my work with clients as I find it to be the perfect combination to promote true and profound healing.

What does a first session with you look like?

While every session looks different, our first session together is a great way to start to build our relationship in the therapeutic space. We will usually start by discussing more in depth what brings you to therapy, your goals and how you may want to be supported in our time working together. We may also begin to incorporate some art-making or somatic healing work as a way to gain some clarity on what you may expect from our time together.

What are your biggest strengths as a therapist?

I am an empathic and client-centered therapist which means I am passionate about making sure that the therapeutic space supports you. I aim to create a safe environment for you to explore you emotions and body-based experiences free of judgment or fear. I feel my experiential training has allowed for me to have some insight as to how the therapeutic experience may feel and I am able to support you from that place with an individualized support.

Education

Pratt Institute, Master of Professional Studies, Art Therapy and Creative Development , 2018

In this highly experiential based program, I was able to engage in the therapeutic benefits of art-making firsthand, witnessing and experiencing the lasting healing effects that engaging in Art Therapy can have on our mental health. This program provided me with the education to work with the individuals I now serve, supporting them on their healing journey.

Florida State University , Bachelor of Science, Psychology , 2014

This is where I discovered not only my love for the field of psychology and understanding human behaviors but also where I learned that Art Therapy was a mental health profession. It is because of FSU that I was able to take a class in Art Therapy and realize this was the lasting field for me.

Work History

I specialize working with adults who experience Anxiety, Trauma, Grief and low Self Esteem using Art Therapy and Somatic Healing. Using these integrative methods, I am dedicated to help you better understand your emotions, your body's experience and develop actionable tools that you can use in your daily life. Art Therapy is the use of art making and the creative process as a tool for self-exploration, understanding and coping. Somatic Healing implements the use of mindfulness to increase self-awareness and discover tools to strengthen the mind-body connection. Both can help you regulate your emotions, build self-esteem, find coping skills and help you heal! I am a patient, compassionate and supportive therapist whose main goal is to offer a safe environment to help you address your desired treatment goals. I am dedicated to work alongside you, providing you the space to explore your needs.
