Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I have over 20 years of experience in interpersonal communications. I hold both a BS and MPS in communications, specializing in alternative dispute resolution. I have over six years of experience in this area (co-parenting, separation, divorce, disability, end-of-life care). For the past three years I served as an ombuds for a non-profit working with trauma survivors. Most recently, I graduated with an MA in marriage and family therapy, specializing in couples therapy. I am also a certified mindfulness-informed professional with expertise in using meditation and other mindfulness activities to facilitate mental and emotional healing.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I am your partner on this healing journey, here to help you uncover your hidden strengths and teach you tools to create the life you deserve. My life experiences provided me with a unique skill set built on the belief that all experiences have something to teach us. Most anxiety and depression stems from experiences that were beyond our control. While we cannot change the past, we can change how we respond to these experiences. My goal is to help you use your life experiences to build a skill set that emphasizes autonomy and self-agency. Together we will identify and explore the circumstances surrounding your concerns, identify your strengths, and use them to help you feel more empowered, confident, and at peace. I don’t believe in the concepts of never, always, or forever in the realm of mental health, as there are always exceptions and opportunities to change, even if we cannot immediately see them. You don’t need to suffer in silence anymore; I’m here to listen and offer support. You’re going to be ok, I promise, and I’m ready to walk beside you on your journey when you feel ready to take the first step.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My clients would describe me as empathetic, compassionate, and non-judgmental, due to my emphasis on meeting people where they are. I believe that communication, connection, and collaboration are the keys to a successful therapeutic experience. We all enter the therapy room with assumptions, beliefs, and values directly related to our individual, familial, and cultural experiences. My goal is to work with you on identifying and exploring the relationship between these experiences and the challlenges you are currently facing and then collaborating on a plan that honors your unique beliefs and values.
