What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?

The concept that "your hurt is the worst". Often I hear clients share difficult experiences followed by a comment along the lines of "but I know it's not as bad as". Many clients experience reluctance to share or guilt in sharing because they fear that they may be downplaying what others have gone through by acknowledging their own experiences as difficult. Compassion is important to show others AND ourselves.

If you could pick one movie or book that influenced your approach to therapy, what would it be and why?

"Man's Search for Meaning" by Victor Frankl Finding our own personal meaning in life can be powerful and healing. In the midst of excruciating life circumstances Dr. Frankl was able to see how influential making meaning is in finding purpose and minimizing the impacts of suffering. Concepts from his psychological theory "Logotherapy" are consistently front of mind for me.

  • Idaho, Licensed Professional Counselor, LPC-10205

Education

Northwest Nazarene University, Master of Science in Counseling, Clinical Counseling, 2023

The Clinical Mental Health Counseling masters program I completed at Northwest Nazarene University is a CACREP accredited program. During my studies I completed internship hours towards licensure at two locations, a partial hospitalization program for teens and a nonprofit for individuals who experienced domestic violence or any form of abuse. I gained experience in individual, family, and group counseling with teenagers and a wide age range of male and female identifying adults.

Work History

I've worked with teens and adults, primarily with those who have experienced domestic violence and/or abuse and suicidal ideations. I have conducted individual, family, and group therapy and have worked in partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient facilities. I've encountered individuals who have endured many forms of trauma and have seen incredible growth from these clients in reducing the painful symptoms that they were experiencing as a result.
