Under Clinical Supervision
Casey McFarland, Licensed Associate Counselor, APC000032 is practicing under the supervision of Rachel Chir (Pennsylvania, LPC, PC012071) at Core Clarity Co.
Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I chose to work in therapy because I believe in the power of healing through connection and understanding. My journey has shown me how deeply impactful it is to offer a safe, compassionate space for others—especially those navigating complex experiences like grief, identity, and trauma. Supporting people through their most challenging times is not just a career to me; it's a calling that aligns with my values of empathy, growth, and resilience.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I’m an open book who is as transparent as it comes. I use sarcasm, dark humor, and will show up in comfy clothes with tattoos and piercings visible.. so feel free to come in your most authentic form! You can trust that our interactions will be full of real talk and honest answers. Our sessions are collaborative, empowering you to explore and find meaning in your journey at your own pace. My goal is to support you with empathy, respect, and genuine care as you work toward healing and growth.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach to therapy is warm, affirming, and client-centered, while not being afraid to challenge you when necessary. I create a space that feels safe and respectful, where you feel comfortable sharing openly. My style is empathetic and non-judgmental, honoring each person’s unique experiences and cultural backgrounds. I work to combine evidence-based techniques with an intuitive, holistic understanding, while empowering clients to navigate their own healing journey- fostering resilience and self-compassion along the way.

The mission of the Counseling Department at PennWest University is to prepare professional counselors who embody ethical and culturally responsive behavior, advocacy and social justice, and a professional identity as a counselor. These attributes will be used to enhance the well-being of clients and advocate on behalf of both the counseling profession and those who are served. The faculty at PennWest are a diverse community of counselor educators and art therapists who facilitate students’ development, model appropriate professional behavior, and engage in dynamic teaching, service, leadership, and scholarship. Students are expected to develop self-awareness, a strong knowledge base, effective counseling skills, and cultural humility to practice ethically and professionally within a diverse society. Consistent with these expectations is the emphasis placed upon graduate student interpersonal effectiveness. This effectiveness includes growth in the dimensions of warmth, empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuineness with others.
