Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
My path to becoming a therapist began with years of caring for and supporting others. For over two decades, I ran a home childcare program, working closely with children and parents through some of their most tender and challenging seasons. During that time, I witnessed how unhealed pain, generational patterns, and everyday stress can affect families—and how deeply people long to feel seen, understood, and supported.
My own personal therapy journey also played a big part in my decision to enter this field. In one of my sessions, my therapist looked at me and said, “You’re a natural healer. Have you ever thought about becoming a therapist?” That moment stuck with me—and ultimately changed my path. I realized she was right; I had always been drawn to helping others heal and grow.
That inspiration led me back to school, where I earned my Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lamar University. Now, through my work as a therapist, I’m able to combine compassion, curiosity, and training to help clients make sense of their stories and move toward healing, connection, and balance.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
My personality is naturally calm, grounded, and compassionate, which helps clients feel safe and at ease when they sit with me. I bring a steady presence into the room—one that invites openness, honesty, and self-acceptance. I’m deeply empathetic and intuitive, but I also value realness and gentle honesty, so my clients know I’m both caring and direct when needed.
I approach therapy with curiosity and warmth, often weaving in humor and humanity when it feels right. I believe healing happens in authentic connection, not perfection, so I meet clients exactly where they are—without judgment or expectation. My background as a mother and lifelong caregiver has also shaped me into someone who listens deeply and holds space for others with patience and understanding.
At my core, I see therapy as a collaborative and empowering process. I’m not here to “fix” anyone—I’m here to walk alongside my clients as they rediscover their strength, clarity, and sense of self.
If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
I wish people knew that therapy isn’t about being “broken” or needing to be fixed—it’s about giving yourself permission to heal, grow, and understand yourself more deeply. You don’t have to have everything figured out before you begin; therapy is the space where you start figuring things out.
Many people hesitate because they’re afraid of being judged or of what might come up in the process. But a good therapist meets you with compassion, not criticism. Therapy is about having someone walk beside you—someone who helps you untangle the thoughts, patterns, and emotions that feel too heavy to carry alone.
It’s okay to come in unsure, scared, or skeptical. What matters most is that you show up. Healing starts with that first step, and over time, therapy can help you find peace, clarity, and confidence in ways you may not have thought possible.

Education
Lamar University, Master of Education, clinical mental health, 2025 — I received extensive training in evidence-based therapeutic approaches, human development, and the treatment of trauma, anxiety, and mood disorders. My graduate education emphasized both the science and art of counseling—combining clinical skills, ethical practice, and self-awareness to help clients navigate life’s challenges with resilience and purpose.
Through Lamar University’s program, I gained supervised experience in individual, couples, and family counseling, with a focus on trauma-informed care, mindfulness-based interventions, and relational healing. This education continues to guide my work in helping clients feel seen, supported, and empowered to create meaningful change in their lives.
Work HistoryBefore becoming a therapist, I spent over 25 years working closely with children and families as the owner of a home childcare program. This experience gave me a deep understanding of family dynamics, parenting challenges, and the emotional needs that arise at every stage of life.
As I transitioned into the field of counseling, I found my passion in helping adolescents and adults navigate anxiety, trauma, relationships, and life transitions. My work has included supporting individuals healing from childhood wounds, postpartum challenges, and difficult family relationships. I’ve also worked with clients struggling with OCD, depression, and self-worth, helping them develop insight, compassion, and healthier coping tools.
Today, through True North ATX Counseling, I draw from my lived experience, professional training, and trauma-informed approach to create a safe, supportive space for clients to reconnect with their sense of balance, clarity, and purpose.
