Are there any recurring themes or issues you’ve noticed as you treat people in your area of specialization, and how has this insight guided your approach?

People with “bad moms” carry a ton of emotional weight—guilt, self-doubt, feeling like they don’t fit in. It spills into everything: relationships, work, self-esteem. My job is to help untangle all that mess. Together, we work on setting boundaries and dropping the baggage.

What does success look like in therapy? How will a client know that they are making progress?

Success feels like freedom. It’s when you say “no” without guilt, build relationships that don’t drain you, or stop needing approval to feel okay. Progress shows up in little wins: less anxiety, more confidence, and a sense of peace you didn’t have before. Those are the moments when you know therapy is working.

How has your particular field of specialization evolved in recent years and how has that impacted your work?

Talking about toxic moms used to feel taboo, but now it’s everywhere—on social media, in support groups, you name it. People are finally realizing they’re not alone, and that’s huge. It means I can be more direct and upfront with clients. You’re not broken. The problem isn’t you. And now there are real tools to help you take back control.

Education

Pennsylvania State University, Master of Arts, Clinical Psychology, 2017

During my Master’s program at Penn State, I focused on therapy and clinical work with a strong emphasis on research and practical application. My thesis compared a large dataset on mass murderers to gain insights into motives, and I also conducted research related to autism through my graduate assistantship. I proposed and defended my thesis within my first year, a first in the program's history. My internship at Hershey Medical Center included leading individual, group, and family therapy sessions for kids and teens on anxiety and depression. I created a CBT-based anxiety workbook for these groups and collaborated closely with psychiatrists.

Shippensburg University, Master of Science, Psychological Science, 2015

During my Master’s program at Shippensburg University, I developed a strong foundation in psychology, research, and practical application. My thesis focused on complex PTSD and its impact on trust and help-seeking behavior, receiving recognition as one of the best-written in the program. I collaborated on research projects, including juvenile recidivism rates and substance use among student-athletes. My time there also included teaching opportunities and mentoring undergraduates on writing and research. A summer internship at Hershey Medical Center, encouraged by my mentor, marked the start of my clinical focus and experience.

Work History

I started my psychology career by researching juvenile justice programs—I was hired to analyze if their programs actually help kids stay out of juvenile detention (hint: they didn't). That led to an internship at Hershey Medical Center, where I worked with kids, teens, and families dealing with anxiety, depression, and trauma. I even created a CBT anxiety workbook for group therapy. From there, I worked as a mobile therapist, a behavioral specialist, and eventually an outpatient therapist for kids, teens, adults, couples, and families. Now, I focus on my online private practice, where I help adults untangle the mess of complex family dynamics and start living their lives on their own terms.
