What do you think is the biggest barrier today for people seeking care?
Stigma by far is huge societal problem---especially in communities of color where we are often expected to be "strong" all the time or taught that vulnerability is a sign of weakness. Many of us internalize our suffering, typically as a result of being shamed, misunderstood and invalidated even when we do try to ask for help. What makes it even harder is the lack of diversity in the mental health field, often making it difficult to find a safe and comfortable space to fully process emotions and traumas.
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
I consider myself a wounded healer. I know what it's like to experience trauma and to not feel supported, as well as the crushing feeling that comes with being dismissed and misunderstood. Therefore, I make it my mission to foster an environment in which my clients feel seen, heard and empowered. I want all of my clients to know that they matter and are cared for.

Work HistoryI have experience working in a variety of settings from private practice, to outpatient facilities and community based non profit organizations. Due to my backgrounds in both Social Work and Psychology, I have a holistic perspective that takes into account how social, psychological and biological factors impact a person's mental health.
