What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
Clients will walk away with more confidence to live life on their own terms and make decisions grounded in clarity. They will be able to cultivate relationships that are fulfilling, and feel more connected to their community. Folks will be more equipped to manage their feelings, set boundaries and advocate for their needs. If they are struggling with disordered eating, they will better able to trust their body's hunger and fullness cues and feel less stress around food. They will be able to handle spontaneous meal outings and be more present with their loved ones around food. They will actually start to truly believe that they their body doesn't define their worthiness and begin to embrace their uniqueness.
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
As a queer cisgender woman married to a trans woman, I am dedicated to helping LGBTQ and transgender communities. I was an artist before I became a therapist, so creativity informs my clinical work, including talk therapy. Intuitive and Health at Every Size helped were absolute game-changers in healing my relationship with food. My personal experiences and philosophies shape the grounding principles of my work with clients: Weight inclusive care, LGBTQ and trans centered care, intersectionality, and creative therapy approaches.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
My approach is down-to-earth and conversational, rather than buttoned-up. I bring a warm and grounding presence into the therapy room. Our sessions are a calm space where you can be yourself without having to worry about being judged.
I ask thoughtful questions that sometimes feel challenging, but are always delivered with compassion. I'm not here to fix you, and I won't tell you what to do. This will likely be annoying at times! I truly believe that real change happens when you're empowered to find your own wisdom. I bring my training and experience to help guide you on your journey.
I show up as my full self which means I'll laugh you, maybe talk about my favorite restaurant in Philly. And at the same time, I pay close attention to how our dynamic may shed light on the patterns you may experience in your personal life. What happens in the therapy room might bring valuable information on what needs to change in your life.
