Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I first discovered social work during my undergraduate studies after exploring other majors. What drew me in was the opportunity to understand why dysfunction exists in families and to help people heal by gaining insight and learning tools to create healthier relationships. Over time, I’ve found inspiration in seeing clients grow and improve. My background in exploring engineering as a major taught me to think outside the box, and being a communication major strengthened my ability to connect with others — both skills I now bring into my work as a therapist.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
I’m naturally a calm and grounding person, but I also know how to bring energy and encouragement when it’s needed. In sessions, I like to have a sense of structure while also staying flexible and going with the flow. I usually build rapport by finding common ground, and clients often tell me they feel comfortable opening up with me. I try to keep things real — showing up with compassion, curiosity, and authenticity. I empathize deeply, but I also gently challenge clients to look at their role in the struggles they’re facing. My creativity, patience, and practical outlook all shape the way I support growth and healing in therapy.
What impact did the scope and/or focus of your education have on your current work as a therapist?
My social work education gave me a strong foundation in problem-solving and in understanding mental health for individuals, families, and groups. The role plays and psychodrama in graduate school really shaped the way I connect with clients in sessions. Later, studying nursing opened up a new perspective by helping me understand the mind-body connection through anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology. It also taught me how to communicate more effectively with medical providers. Blending what I learned in both fields, I take a holistic approach to therapy that honors both psychological and physical health.

Work HistoryOver the past 19 years, I’ve worked with a wide range of clients, most often adults 65 and older.
