What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I'd love to teach you about how your mind works so you can better understand what it is often trying (and failing) to do for you. Knowing where you want to go and how your mind may try to stop you can be invaluable in making effective, positive changes to your life. My style is very active. At the end of every session, I want you to feel like you have a game plan with something you can practice so that you level up your skills. My goal is to work myself out of a job.
What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?
Current research leads me to believe that the software running our brains is horribly out of date. The same brains that worked great when we were still in tribes gathering berries and hunting fuzzy woodland creatures does not work well at all in our modern world. Unfortunately, our minds often try to use the same tactics that worked great for our ancestors. Knowing that our minds are trying to help, but have absolutely no idea what they are doing to us really helps and - hopefully - can inspire us to learn more so we can develop effective solutions to our problems.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
I love to mix in my wonder at our minds work and my desire to help you meet your goals with curiosity, creativity, and a sense of humor when the occasion allows.
