Education
SCA Captstone University, Doctorate of Philosophy, Multi-faith Spiritual Direction, 2021 — Spiritual direction is a relational process where a trained guide helps someone deepen their relationship with God/Spirit/Higher Power. It's a helping relationship that involves listening, asking questions, and companionship to help the person grow spiritually, allowing their story to unfold. My doctoral program reviewed many religious and spiritual practices across the world with a focus on diversity, equality and inclusion as well as ecofeminism, indigenous culture, and human rights. We studied the roots of slavery, reparations and white privilege all from a lens of social justice. We studied religious trauma as well as positive spiritual practices. My final project focused on differentiating between spiritual coaching and spiritual direction. I was awarded a DTh- Doctor of Theology.
University of Georgia, Master of Education, Vocational Rehabilitation Counseling, 1994 — Vocational Rehabilitation Counselors assist people with mental and/or physical disabilities to live fully and engage in meaningful work. This degree included mental health counselor training and additionally focused on medical aspects of disability, reasonable accommodation, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), patient advocacy, case management, vocational assessments and job coaching.
Work HistoryI have always been intuitive. That's my starting point. I knew I wanted to help others so I became a counselor. I have been in the helping/healing professions for over 30 years. Along my journey I decided to become more intentional about my intuition. I decided to come out of the "pixie closet" and started adding all the woo to everything I do. I learned Reiki and I was introduced to essential oils. I had many profound moments of growth- all leading to my own spiritual awakening (and dark night of the soul). I began integrating alternative approaches to my work with others. And I am still doing that today. I believe in the mind-body-spirit trinity.
