Education
The Chicago School, Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling — I am almost finished with a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, a CACREP-accredited program that emphasizes multicultural awareness, social justice, and ethical practice.
During my graduate training, I gained extensive clinical experience through practicum and internship, working with diverse populations in both individual and group settings. My coursework included advanced training in assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, trauma-informed care, and wellness-focused interventions.
My research focused on [insert your thesis/capstone topic—e.g., trauma and resilience, addiction recovery, multicultural identity development, or another area of interest], which strengthened my commitment to evidence-based and culturally responsive counseling.
While in the program, I actively participated in [insert groups/organizations, e.g., Chi Sigma Iota, ACA student division, or multicultural counseling advocacy groups] and was recognized for [insert honors/awards if applicable—e.g., academic excellence, leadership, or community service].
This strong academic foundation, combined with hands-on clinical practice, prepared me to provide compassionate, affordable, and accessible mental health care to clients from all walks of life.
Work HistoryAt Innova Recovery Center, I worked closely with people healing from trauma, addiction, and other mental health challenges. I led individual therapy sessions one-on-one, helping each person uncover what’s behind their struggles, build coping tools, and grow stronger at their own pace. I also facilitated group therapy—small groups of people (often 8-12) who share similar experiences. Those group sessions allowed folks to support each other, learn from one another, and realize they're not alone in their journey. From this work, I developed deep skills in trauma-informed care, shame resilience, and helping clients break free from negative beliefs about themselves and the world.
Earlier, in the military, I learned discipline, structure, resilience under pressure, and how to stay steady in chaotic situations. Those experiences taught me how to remain calm in crisis, adapt quickly when plans change, and provide leadership and teamwork when it matters most. I also saw how important it is that people feel understood and safe—things that can make or break mental health work. I bring those lessons into therapy: helping people feel grounded even when life feels overwhelming, supporting consistent progress, and honoring the strength people bring even when they don’t see it yet.
I also gained valuable perspective while working in a homeless shelter and at a correctional center in Hawai‘i. Both environments showed me how deeply life circumstances, systemic barriers, and trauma affect mental health. I witnessed the courage it takes to seek stability in the face of housing insecurity or incarceration, and I developed a strong commitment to providing compassionate, non-judgmental care. These experiences strengthened my belief that every person deserves dignity, healing, and the chance to build a meaningful life, no matter where they are starting from.
