Get To Know Me
If you could pick one movie or book that influenced your approach to therapy, what would it be and why?
When I was a kid I liked the movie Pete's Dragon (what am I saying? I still do) and felt that Elliott, the cartoon dragon, was a great role model, as he went around helping kids. I also felt that Nora, the lighthouse keeper and Pete's eventual adopted mom, was strong and dedicated to protecting Pete as soon as they meet, ride-or-die from day one. Contrast that with Doc Terminus, the snake oil salesman, who pretends to be a healer but is really just a heel.
I started my career on psychiatric units for children and teens. Nowadays I mostly work with older teens and adults, but inside all of us lives that spark of childhood, along with the fears and doubts we learned from a young age. I love being able to help connect with that part of ourselves, and guide others to parent & protect their inner emotional parts.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I am an enemy to shame. If you come to see me you will never be judged, and never have to be anyone other than yourself. There are many many times in life when we are pressured to edit ourselves, or play a specific role. Therapy should not be one of those times. You can say anything you feel or think. Even when thoughts are unhealthy they still need to be explored. You should always be free to be you.
