Work HistoryMy path to becoming a therapist wasn't a straight line, and I think that's part of what makes me good at it. Before I ever sat across from a client, I spent years working in restaurants, as a first responder and then a building manager. Those experiences taught me more about human beings than any textbook. I learned that most people aren't looking for someone to fix them. They're looking for someone who will actually hear them and then explore with them. When my wife and I landed in New York City after a year of living out of our car and traveling through Canada and the US, I took a vocational assessment called the Highlands Ability Battery. The results pointed clearly toward therapy. My wife's response when I told her was essentially "obviously." So I went back to school, which was a hard decision as a neurodivergent, diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, who always struggled in school. Going back to graduate school as an adult, after years of being told I wasn't built for academic work, and finishing with a 3.77 GPA — that experience shaped how I work with clients more than anything else in my training. I'm now a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with Diagnostic Privilege and trained in EMDR. I'm also a certified Highlands Ability Battery consultant, which I offer to clients who are trying to figure out why they feel stuck in terms of how they're wired and what they're actually built to do. I work primarily with adults who are capable and stuck, neurodivergent individuals navigating a world that wasn't designed for how they think, and couples and families where the dynamic has stopped working. I've been doing this work in Manhattan since founding Reframed Mental Health, and before that completed my clinical training and supervised hours with a group practice in upstate New York.
