In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
I am a highly curious and practical person which has greatly shaped my approach to therapy. We are feeling creatures before we are thinking creatures, so exploring is essential. The therapeutic relationship is vital to this as we need a psychologically safe environment where we can ask tough questions, be wrong, and still keep exploring. If you're looking for a place to unload where the therapist's primary interaction is "how does that make you feel", I'm definitely not the right therapist for you. I want to team up with you against the problem.
As a very direct person, I'm not going to hint at the idea of something, I'm going to face it head on. The basis is exploration to give feelings language, but also to challenge our assumptions and to fail fast. That might sound a little strange. It's a concept borrowed from business. The quicker we can try and fail, the quicker we can get to success. In therapy that might mean challenging ideas or assumptions, or testing coping mechanisms and tools.

Work HistoryMy path to becoming a therapist wasn't a straight line, and I think that's part of what makes me good at it.
Before I ever sat across from a client, I spent years working in restaurants, as a first responder and then a building manager. Those experiences taught me more about human beings than any textbook. I learned that most people aren't looking for someone to fix them. They're looking for someone who will actually hear them and then explore with them.
When my wife and I landed in New York City after a year of living out of our car and traveling through Canada and the US, I took a vocational assessment called the Highlands Ability Battery. The results pointed clearly toward therapy. My wife's response when I told her was essentially "obviously." So I went back to school, which was a hard decision as a neurodivergent, diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, who always struggled in school.
Going back to graduate school as an adult, after years of being told I wasn't built for academic work, and finishing with a 3.77 GPA — that experience shaped how I work with clients more than anything else in my training.
I'm now a Licensed Mental Health Counselor with Diagnostic Privilege and trained in EMDR. I'm also a certified Highlands Ability Battery consultant, which I offer to clients who are trying to figure out why they feel stuck in terms of how they're wired and what they're actually built to do.
I work primarily with adults who are capable and stuck, neurodivergent individuals navigating a world that wasn't designed for how they think, and couples and families where the dynamic has stopped working. I've been doing this work in Manhattan since founding Reframed Mental Health, and before that completed my clinical training and supervised hours with a group practice in upstate New York.
