Under Clinical Supervision

Elizabeth Sabga, Mental Health Counselor - Limited Permit, 18-P123298-01 is practicing under the supervision of Malika Latchman (New York, LMHC, 012971) at The Soho Center.

Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

As a therapist, my approach to therapy is deeply rooted in authenticity, honesty, and genuine connection. I firmly believe that creating a safe and trusting environment is essential for effective therapy, where clients feel comfortable enough to open up and explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. However, creating this environment doesn't mean shying away from challenging moments or difficult conversations. In fact, it's within these moments of challenge that real growth and transformation often occur. One of the key ways I keep it real as a therapist is by maintaining honesty and transparency in my interactions with clients. This means being open about my observations, thoughts, and feelings, even when they might be uncomfortable or difficult to discuss. For example, if I notice a pattern of behavior or thought that I believe is hindering my client's progress, I will gently but directly address it in session. Through my hands-on approach, I strive to create an environment where growth and transformation can flourish.

What should we know about your experiences and background?

Being an immigrant woman from a multicultural background, I understand the complexities of navigating multiple identities including race, culture, religion, gender, sexuality, class, and ability. With a unique blend of Caribbean and Levantine heritage, my approach to counseling is enriched by the diverse tapestry of experiences that shape individuals. Together we will delve into how your unique intersectionality shapes your world. As an LGBTQ+ and kink-allied therapist, my goal is to provide a safe, genuine, and non-judgmental space for your personal growth and healing.

What does a first session with you look like?

I am currently accepting new clients for virtual sessions and would be honored to join you on your therapeutic journey. Taking the initial step towards positive change starts with reaching out. I offer complimentary 15-minute phone consultations to discuss your goals, understand your specific needs, and explore the most effective ways we can collaborate.

Work History

I have experience working in schools, mental health facilities, and private practice environments providing care to a diverse population of individuals. A majority of my experience was done in high-risk environments providing trauma-informed care to clients experiencing childhood abuse, domestic violence, traumatic grief, religious trauma, sexual trauma, transgenerational trauma, and narcissistic abuse. I have a background in addressing needs related to anxiety, depression, self-esteem, burnout, identity, immigrant experiences, and more. I also specialize in relationships and create a non-judgmental space for clients to openly explore challenges related to sexual identity, breakups, conflict resolution, communication, and intimacy.
