What do you think is the biggest barrier today for people seeking care?
I believe that the biggest barrier to getting the care that many people so desparately need, is the stigma attached to seeing a therapist. Usually, the notion is that a person is "crazy" if they are reaching out for counseling. In reality, we all need someone to talk to at some point in our lives. I am the person who will listen to your complete thoughts and help you to see the bigger picture while we discover ways to resolve the problem areas and develop coping tools along the way.
How does collaboration with other providers play into your work?
Although I've been in this profession for over 20 years, I'm still learning daily. I learn from all types of resources; including from my clients. I do not know it all! I am aware of my limitations and I will make sure that I reach out to my colleagues to assist in areas that I may not be my strongest. It is okay to ask questions and I believe in humility and making sure that I help my clients in every way possible.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I am completely down to earth and and believe in what I do and the people that I help. I do not judge, I'm unbiased, and I believe that everyone has the capability to be happy. I am not psychic and I rely on my clients to be upfront and honest so that I can help them to the best of my ability.

Work History
I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and a Master of Science degree in Mental Health Counseling. I am currently licensed in the State of North Carolina as a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor - Supervisor (LCMHC-S), #9235 and a Licensed Clinical Addictions Specialist, #2998. I have over 22 years of working in the mental health field as well as with substance abuse clientele. I specialize in clientele with chronic mental illnesses to include psychosis, personality disorders, addictions and mood disorders. I have extensive experience working with various clientele populations to include children through geriatrics, foster care children, adult inmates and juvenile delinquents. Therapy is a process whereas the client discusses issues and concerns with me in order to find a way to either cope with situations and/or relieve themselves of the stressor. I like to make sure that clients recognize that it is not a method of being given the answers to your problems or how to solve daily issues. You already have that within yourself! I will be there to be an objective voice in order to help you to view different perspectives from other angles. It is easy for a person to become wrapped up in their own issues that they are unable to rationalize. This is where I come in to help you “to look outside of the box”.
