In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?
My life long passion has been to understand the human condition better and am an avid consumer of materials related to psychology, philosophy, religious studies, and cultural theory. I hold three undergraduate degrees in English, Psychology, and Comparative Literature (Minor in Film Studies, too!) and a Masters in Clinical Counseling. Art and culture can play a prominent role in helping articulate, explore, and ultimately understand ourselves through the creative artifacts of a multitude of mediums. I'd love to hear what resonates with you, what you relate to, what inspires you. Therapy does not have to be only hard work but also an exploration and celebration of what it means to be human.
What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?
The heart of therapy is in the relationship... an honest, forthright, authentic relationship. I strongly believe in the power of empathic support to foster a safe space to do the work and an equal conviction in the absolute necessity of being challenged to face emotional pain and distress as complementary modes to facilitate change. Balance in all things.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I am committed to creating a safe space in which clients feel comfortable expressing and exploring what is distressing to them along with the circumstances, past and present, related to it. In that, you will find me open to and engaged with learning about you as an individual. Meeting clients where they are is critical to building an authentic working relationship. I'll help you articulate your goals and clarify how our work in therapy will help you achieve them. My style is warm and engaging, though I will also be challenging and encourage you to reach higher. I employ evidenced based treatment strategies that are dynamic and effective. Therapy is challenging work though I'm confident your effort will be rewarded early.
