What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?
I would say a key component of the therapeutic relationship is building rapport and creating a safe place. That takes time and it can vary depending on the client and their history. I love creating a safe, comfortable, non judgemental space for my clients. I am a genuine, empathetic, kind person and a great listener. Validation is incredibly important and I will validate and encourage my clients often. I want each person I see to feel seen and heard. Trust is also huge. Giving the time needed for the client to build that trust with you is important. I meet one where they are at. I love checking in on clients and making sure they feel comfortable or if there is anything I can do to support them further.
