What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
My clients have often described me as genuine, warm, empathic, supportive, dedicated, and attuned to their needs. While much of what we will do in our work is grounded in the present, we will often explore your past experiences and relationships as a way to deepen our understandings and insights, make connections between your emotions and behaviors, and identify patterns that are counterproductive or harmful, which will ultimately lead you to become a better version of yourself. I have a strength-based approach which is culturally responsive and trauma-informed. My greatest hope for you is that you realize that you have everything that you need to be happy and live the life, have the relationships, and achieve the goals that you want. I see it as my job to teach you how to recognize, understand, and use those resources to get to your joy and reach your full potential. Working with me, you come to realize that, unlike other areas in your life, therapy is not a place where you are expected to “be perfect” or “have it all together.” Our sessions will be the one place where I encourage you to be genuine and authentic without apologies. There is no need to hide things due to shame, no need to avoid things due to fear, and no need to edit or filter. Who you are and what you bring is unconditionally accepted! I understand and appreciate how difficult it can be to find the right therapist, and I surely do not want to contribute to that stress. While looking, consider if you feel that you can connect to the therapist based on the information you can gather about them. Therapy is likely to be most successful when you have a good connection with your therapist - the quality of the relationship is so important. Work History
I am an NYS licensed psychologist who earned my M.A. in Counseling for Mental Health and Wellness from New York University and my Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from Fordham University. Over the past decade, I have worked in numerous hospitals and college counseling centers throughout NYC. Dr. Dillon takes an integrative approach to therapy, often working relationally from a feminist and multiculturally-informed lens with clients while incorporating dynamic interventions and evidence-based treatments (i.e., MI, PST, CBT, and DBT). My areas of expertise involve social justice and advocacy, implicit bias and microaggressions, and diversity, equity, and inclusion – all of which inform his sensitive, curious, collaborative, and conscientious approach to therapy. I specialize in working with individuals and couples who are people of color, immigrants, and members of the LGBTQIA+ community who suffer from depression, anxiety, stress, burnout, relationship difficulties, identity issues, and more.
