What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
As a child of a messy divorce, I had to see a lot of therapists and found that so many of them were not warm, welcoming, or truly caring. I was certainly never taught how to help myself. So in middle school, I decided to be the therapist I never had. One who believes that even though you may be young, you are still capable of growth, learning, and healing. Fast forward to adulthood and being married, being a bonus mom, and having a toddler and infant, all while navigating co-parenting I see the world from a parent’s lens and though I understand my past differently I am still left with the same passion to be the counselor my younger self never got and the support my family never had.
What is your style/approach to therapy?
I believe that a person's problems do not stem from just one area of life; therefore, our healing should not include one area of life. I think it is important to look at each client as a whole and as a unique individual. I believe that every person has strengths that can be drawn on to bring about healing and change.
If there was one thing you wish people knew about the therapy experience who might be hesitant to try it, what would that be?
There is never a wrong reason to come to therapy. Nor is there a perfect time. You just gotta jump in and give it a try.
