What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
After my undergraduate degree, I spent about 10 years considering what direction my life would take. Through the various jobs I engaged in, I found my greatest satisfaction and interest in being with customers/students I was working with, exploring their thinking, the hopes and dreams, and making space for them to talk about and explore their challenges and pains. I found myself longing to be able to use myself, my presence, as a place for healing, learning, growth, and exploration. I want to walk with others and help them see themselves and their lives from new and deeper perspectives, finding the changes that they can make or learning how to find meaning, joy, and peace in the paths that they are currently leading that they may not be able to change fully.
In what ways do your life philosophy and treatment philosophy overlap?
I see all aspects of human living as integrated, body, mind, heart (see emotions), and soul (see spiritual, faith). I approach my practice the same way. Often the changes that are needing to be made are in one area not always considered, but end up changing other areas in the direction desired over time. Often we can shift a few things in other areas of living when we feel "stuck" in one area and then can actually make changes in that area. I also know that not every client fits a singular mode and we all have or variations of common themes in all our life areas, so it benefits to have various ways to seek to address making life changes. I refer to this as the "recipe" of life (multiple ingredients, in varying proportions, added at various times, and cooked a certain length of time to get the flavor we want... results!).
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
I am curious about seeing the connections, the "big picture" as well as finding ways to live in that picture more deliberately. I see each person on their own mountain of life and want to walk that with them with also having another perspective to offer. I am understanding while also present gentle "nudges" to consider different perspectives. I am more or less straight forward about things, though understanding that we all don't come from the same understanding about life. I take my time with my clients and offer them warmth, consideration, structure, boundaries, affirmation, and good feedback, just as I would like to receive from people trying to help me. I desire to see the whole person as I as well desire to do so with myself. I lead with humility (I have my things, you have yours, we all have different flavors of the same ice cream) and will lead with both the challenge and the benefits in self-disclosure as well as acknowledging that my example is not going to look the same as my clients.

Education
Grace College, Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, 2021
Work HistoryI graduated in 2021 with a Masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Grace College in Winona Lake, IN. This program was comprehensive and integrative, incorporating spirituality and Christian faith into the whole realm of counseling practices and considerations, from grief and trauma to marriage and families, working with children, special populations, sexuality and sex therapy, development. It prepared me for my next nearly 4 years working in the field of co-occurring addictions and mental health counseling in an outpatient setting. I have worked with helping clients improve relationships, find their "why", learn skills, develop wellness practices, gain clarity in their patterns of behavior and thinking, and make positive changes in their engagement in society as well as how they treat themselves. I now work in private practice to be able to follow past the initial recovery stages and continue with clients at all stages of life, from putting back together the blocks of the foundation of their "house" to deciding what carpets and paint to choose from all the way to whether not to add another addition or a pool, metaphorically speaking.
