Under Clinical Supervision
Gretchen Englander, Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, 90045 is practicing under the supervision of Martin Shaw (Texas, LPC-S, 63283) at Connections Wellness Group.
Please, note: A clinician listed as being “clinically supervised” is completing clinical hours toward their licensure. They have one or more fully licensed clinical supervisors that often have special training to become supervisors. They consult with their supervisor(s) on all of their cases, which means that, when working with them, you are getting the time and expertise of multiple therapists in your treatment.
What do you view as a key component of the therapeutic relationship?
Authenticity. It makes a huge difference what can be accomplished in therapy when you feel comfortable being yourself and not having to present an outward persona. I come into therapy as my quirky, nerdy self, and encourage my clients to come in as they are without self-consciousness and fear of judgement. I think it can be equally therapeutic to discuss a person's favorite books and their D&D character as other paths.
What does success look like in therapy? How will a client know that they are making progress?
Many clients see success as huge changes, but I celebrate the changes that are easily overlooked. Bigger change is built from accumulated small shifts. Awareness of a behavior is the first step towards actually changing it. Acknowledging insecurity is the first step towards improved self-esteem. I often highlight these overlooked wins to my clients as a reminder that working through something isn't an indication of failure but of success in itself.
What are your biggest strengths as a therapist?
I am warm, adaptable, and passionate. I am unconditionally accepting of my clients and empower them as the experts in their needs. My style of counseling is flexible and adaptable to the approach and skills my clients feel they are benefiting from. I always ask my clients to communicate how they feel therapy is serving them, so we can navigate adjusting the process together. I am passionate about my clients' wellness and doing what I can to provide the support they need.

Work History
I have worked as an LPC-Associate for Connections Wellness Group since November of 2022. I provide individual therapy and relationship counseling as a part of our private practice department. Before CWG, I worked as a master's level intern at Innovation 360 in Dallas. At i360 I acted as a group therapist for our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), as well as facilitating our DBT skills and anxiety groups. I had the unique opportunity to be a part of i360's Life Development team, where I worked with clients outside the office to work on their goals in the real world. I have also worked as a master's level clinician for UNT's Counseling and Human Development Center during my practicum semester. Here, I worked with individual adults and college students. Since 2019 I have acted as a volunteer for a local non-profit, The Art Room. The Art Room offers free services and art materials to members of the community to encourage healing through artistic expression.
