What is your style/approach to therapy?
My approach to therapy is through a collaborative and kind approach, I want to foster a space in which you feel seen, heard, and respected in all ways. While I do utilize a DBT and trauma informed care based approach, every session will be tailored to fit your needs and comfortability. I utilize strategies based in narrative therapy, and find productive benefit in therapeutic journalling and writing based work with those who are interested. I specialize in working with adults and teens struggling with substance misuse, borderline personality disorder, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, complicated grief, anger, OCD, and adjustment challenges (adjusting to adulthood, retirement, newly divorced, co-parenting, etc).
Outside of therapy I spend my time with my partner and plants! I love to bake and create art, I’m incredibly passionate about learning, I try to learn at least one new thing every day and challenge my clients to do the same in session. I feel lucky to be a small part in your journey, it is a privilege to be trusted.
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
When I was a little girl I used to say I wanted to change the world. And that's a big job for one little girl. But the first person who truly changed my world was a school social worker. She unfortunately began work days after a friend of mine had committed suicide, but her commitment to me and my peers in teaching us how to grieve and feel the most impossible feelings, that felt world changing. So after quite a few years of school, here I am, changing the world in my own little way, one session listening ear at a time.
In what ways does your personality influence your approach to therapy?
I am a direct no BS kind of person and that definitely translates into my work! I am not a blank slate therapist, I will laugh and make funny faces and curse right along side of you. I show up as a person in all of my sessions and I hope you do too, building our relationship and comfortability together is the first step in establishing therapeutic trust.
