Get To Know Me
In what ways have your personal experiences influenced your work with your clients?
I have experienced profound grief, intense relationship conflict, and uncertainty about my purpose in life. Connection - with myself, my friends, my family, the natural world - has been the most important part of my growth and healing. Helping my clients foster intimacy and connection in their lives has become fundamental to my practice.
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I actually pursued my degree because I was interested in practicing sex therapy! A few years ago, I was feeling unfulfilled in my barista jobs, and my therapist at the time asked me "What do you want to do that is worth the hard work to finish it?". I realized that I wanted to be a sex therapist or work in the field of sexology. Human Sexuality was the first psychology class I took in college; when I was a teenager, I was obsessed with a National Geographic magazine about human sexuality and intimacy. I was so excited to work for a sex therapy group practice right after completing my degree; it was an amazing experience! In my new practice, I still want to work with people on sexuality and intimacy issues, but I've also discovered some other areas of interest: self-worth, identity exploration, life transitions, and burnout.
What can clients expect to take away from sessions with you?
I want my clients to walk away from our sessions with hope, tools, ideas, and insights.
