What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?

I grew up in a very fast-changing and sometimes chaotic political environment. At some point in my teens, I have noticed that, though some suffering was inevitable, people were getting stuck in much suffering that seemed avoidable. I remember thinking as a child "if only people could think about his differently" ... "maybe they were hurt before"... I was delighted to learn that there was a profession that would allow me to help others diminish this unnecessary suffering. I started taking courses in psychology at 14, and never lost interest.

Work History

I have started psychotherapy by training in several community mental health clinic, where I have worked with people with a lot of different life circumstances and mental health concerns, focusing in anxiety and depression. I have then spent several years working in medical centers, where I served people managing medical illness and related mental health struggles. I have worked at several cancer centers, pain clinics, weight management clinics, physical injuries of various kinds, and hearing loss. During that time, I have learned a lot about these conditions and squired expertise in supporting clients living with them. I have subsequently trained at the VA, again focusing on supporting veterans with medical illness and trauma history. During that time, I have deepened my knowledge in working with chronic pain, trauma, insomnia and nightmares, and relationship challenges. After completing my training, I moved into private practice and have focused mostly on working with people with anxiety, stress, burnout, and various medical conditions I mentioned above. I am continuing to develop my expertise in health psychology, as well as refining my techniques in addressing general mental health concerns -- such as anxiety, panic, struggles with life transitions. Over the last few years I have also deepened my understanding of neurodivergence and have been offering services to clients with ADHD and other, often overlapping, mental health concerns.
