Get To Know Me
What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I started with therapy myself when I was 16 years old and it helped me tremendously then. I understood the power that therapy has to help someone through hard times. I knew this is what I wanted to do for a living: help others achieve their authentic selves and overcome any hardship they may face.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
Being open and transparent about my identities is important to me. I'm very proud of being Latino, gay, and first generation. I do believe in self disclosing when appropriate obviously. I believe fostering a good therapeutic rapport is so essential to positive therapy experiences and positive outcomes.
If you could pick one movie or book that influenced your approach to therapy, what would it be and why?
"Maybe you should talk to someone" by Lori Gottlieb because the author was so transparent about being a therapist and also going to therapy herself. I related so much as I myself am in my own therapy. A good reminder on importance of self care, however that may look like, in order to show up well for clients.
