What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
I have always wanted to be in a therapist since I was teaching in the 90's. I did not start my journey until I was 38 years of age. I was a stay at home mom for 10 years. The thought of becoming a therapist has always lingered. Eventually I took a chance and enrolled in graduate school to pursue mental health counseling. It has been the best decision for my profession life.
What would be important for someone to know about working with you?
I am a very laid back person. I get more out of listening to a person's life story than asking questions. I do not using psychological jargon. Just two people having a conversation about life and what is going on in that person's world. There is no judgment and I like to create a great rapport before anything else.
What’s the most profound, insightful, or interesting thing you’ve learned as a mental health professional?
This was a very interesting question\ to answer. Besides the studies and research to be an effective therapist, the one thing that stood out for me after all these years is that we ( therapists) are human. We all have issues in life that we are going through. At times, I think clients assume therapists have their life together and no issues. On the contrary, we have things we deal with in our personal world. It is understanding, that as therapists we truly understand our clients because we have gone through similar life situations and can relate on a professional as well as personal level.

Work History
I have worked as a mental health counselor for over 10 years. I started as a clinician in a sober living program for women. I met with women for individual and group therapy sessions. I worked with them to get back on their feet. Living life remaining sober. I spent a year working with them and moved onto an outpatient program that was closer to home. This is new role as a clinician worked with clients who were struggling with sobriety. This program was an intensive outpatient program where I conducted three hour long groups three times a week as well as weekly individual sessions. I remained here for over two years until the practice closed. I moved onto and began working at a mental health clinic. I worked with an array of individuals that have been diagnosed with mental and substance use disorders. While working at this clinic, I opened my own private practice in 2015. During the day I would work at the clinic then meet with clients for individual sessions at my private practice. In 2019 I went completely solo with my private practice where I am at today. Working with individual clients assessing their needs and helping them grow.
