What does a first session with you look like?

In therapy, I am empathetic, nonjudgmental, and personable; I create a safe space in which clients can begin the process of healing. When needed, I know how to gently guide people through the exploration of their vulnerabilities, losses, grief, and trauma. During the first session we will outline treatment goals and clearly identify what you would like to get out of therapy. Every session I will ask the same things, "How are you feeling?" - "Is there anything you would like to talk about today?" Throughout treatment we will primarily focus on the situations actively happening in your life and so clients are encouraged to process situations that may actively be contributing to stress.

What is your style/approach to therapy?

Let me tell you a bit about my process. The first appointment we have will focus on us getting to know each other a bit, setting up some treatment goals for therapy, and gathering some history throughout the session. During treatment, my approach is primarily Cognitive Behavioral which means that we will be discussing how certain thoughts and/or behaviors might be contributing to some of the difficult feelings you may be experiencing. Collaboratively throughout treatment we will work on strategies that may be effective for you in particular. During sessions, you are welcome to discuss anything you feel is relevant and I will do my best to keep us focused on our treatment goals throughout treatment.
