Education
University of New Hampshire, Master of Social Work, Social Work, 2001 — I completed the full time MSW program at UNH from 1999-2001. During this time I had two internships, one at a K-8 school providing school based counseling to youth, and the second at a community mental health center working with youth and their families. My second year of the program I was a research assistant for one of my professors, helping to gather information for him to include in the textbook he was writing on social policy.
University of New Hampshire, Bachelor of Arts, Psychology, 1997 — During my undergraduate education I was in the Honors in Psychology program where I conducted research on the occurrence of eating disorders among college age women who had a history of sexual abuse. I presented my research findings at the Undergraduate Research Conference my senior year. I also worked as a research assistant in a cognitive psychology lab running reading experiments and gathering the data for a professor and his graduate students. I studied abroad for a semester, and graduated Summa Cum Laude.
Work HistoryI spent the majority of my career working with children, youth and families. I was trained in several therapy models to help kids and families cope with trauma that they experienced. I have been able to translate my skills into working with adults over the past few years. I can help with identifying feelings, developing coping skills and strategies to use when strong and distressing feelings are triggered and experienced, and addressing unhelpful thought patterns that keep the strong and distressing feelings going. I also enjoy educating others about the brain, why our responses to things are the way we are, and what we do and don't have control over with regard to our brain.
