What was your path to becoming a therapist? What inspired you to choose this profession?
My path to becoming a therapist really started long before I knew what therapy even was. I grew up in a household centered around helping others—my mother was a nurse, and my father was a social worker and educator. Being around them, I constantly saw what it meant to show up for people during some of their most difficult moments.
But the moment that truly shaped my path came when I was 17 years old. I started working at a group home for children who had experienced abuse. At that age, I wasn’t fully prepared for what I would witness—the pain, the resilience, the stories those kids carried. But what stood out to me most was how much of a difference it made when they simply had someone who would listen, someone who cared, someone who showed up consistently.
That experience stayed with me. It pushed me to want to understand people on a deeper level and to be someone who could support others through their healing. That’s what led me to study criminology and sociology at Florida Atlantic University, and eventually pursue my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
